Shooting Fire Ceremony
On the summer solstice at solar noon, members of the Abenaki community gather to celebrate Shooting Fire. Our prayers are whispered into ceremonial tobacco which is then burned in a fire. From that fire an arrow is lit and shot into the sky to deliver our prays to the creator. Beyond our connection to the creator, this ceremony also provides an opportunity for the community to come together and engage in their traditions. These traditions provide a sense of pride in and belonging to our culture and community.
