Shooting Fire Ceremony

On the summer solstice at solar noon, members of the Abenaki community gather to celebrate Shooting Fire. Our prayers whispered into ceremonial tobacco is burned in a fire and then a arrow is lit from the fire is shot into the sky to deliver our prays to the creator. Beyond our connection to the creator, this ceremonial also provides an opportunity for the community to come together and engage in their traditions. These traditions provide a sense of pride in and belonging to our culture and community.

The image you see is of a practice shot before the actual ceremony.
