Hidden Heritage

January 10, 2026

The historical reality underwriting Vermont’s Indian community is unlike the controversial public image advocated by the media, UVM scholars and some Abenaki tribal leaders. Yet dedicated Vermont Indigenous people are delving into government documents, collecting and curating collections of local aboriginal artifacts, images, and writings, retrieving ancestral family practices, skills, photographs, and memories, and growing heritage crops. There will be time for a discussion during and after the presentation. Join us for this workshop on January 10th at the Missisquoi Wildlife Refuge Visitors’ Center at 29 Tabor Road in Swanton Vermont from 9:30 to 4:00. There will be coffee and muffins available in the morning but you should bring a packed lunch.
